Eyeing Obama: An Exchange
From Dick Dell in Chicago:
I realize Obama is far better than any Republican who might have been elected president, but he still manages to disappoint. I don’t think he gets good advice from Rahm or Axelrod. He’s no FDR.
His waffling on the mosque site in NY was especially disheartening. He should come out blasting for it explaining that to allow the mosque to be built would send a worldwide message that we believe in our principles and are not going to be deterred by the likes of Al Queda or Hamas or right wing bigots and hypocrites.
No Christian church is allowed in Saudi Arabia. He should strongly support the mosque for good reasons. I greatly admire Bloomberg’s stirring defense of it. And where does the Anti Defamation League get off opposing it? The Israeli government is controlled by religious orthodox extremists as nutty as any Muslim extremist.

Dick — All I can say is “amen.”
Obama has disappointed on many fronts, though I still rate his over-all record as positive -– in some respects, impressive. He should get rid of dealmonger Emanuel and Wall Streeters Geithner and Summers, listen to Barney Frank, give Paul Volcker a guest bedroom and an hour a day of brainstorming, and appoint Elizabeth Warren without further delay.
And by now he should have asked for a middle class tax cut bill, effective January 1.
Simply ignore the fact that Bush’s tax cuts for the wealthy will expire. Let the Republicans stomp and snort and oppose a tax cut for working people if they want to, as an election approaches.
All I can say for those hapless folks in the White House is that either you or I as president would by this time have crashed and burned out of sheer frustration, impatience, and a tendency to call out criminals for their crimes.
In public life, nobody gets away with that.
