The Great Dictator
In case you’re writing a letter to Kim Jong Il, you’ll want to be sure to use his proper title. Trouble is, he boasts 1,200 official titles, not all of which might be appropriate to your subject.
This week The Economist was kind enough to offer loose translations of a few examples:
Guardian deity of the planet
Ever-victorious general
Lodestar of the 21st century
Supreme commander at the forefront of the struggle against imperialism and the United States
Eternal bosom of hot love
Greatest man who ever lived.
We don’t speak the language, but we suspect that some of the Eternal Bosom’s other 1,994 titles may be less charmingly self-effacing.
