Enhorsement

The Horse wholeheartedly endorses Sonia Sotomayor, Barack Obama’s choice for nomination to the Supreme Court because she has a wonderful smile. No, wait a minute.

She is eminently qualified, of course, but so are those idiots Scalia and Alito if not Thomas, and so are all the other potential nominees Obama was considering. Discriminating between potential justices is a subtle, sophisticated process.

But we have proof that Judge Sotomayor is absolutely the best. Rove, Limbaugh, Huckabee, and the RNC immediately denounced her nomination. Quod erat demonstrandum.

And sic semper piranhas!

Postscript. With all the media referring to Sotomayor as the first Hispanic justice, you might think Benjamin Cardozo would be turning over in his grave. Wikipedia refers to him as the first Hispanic justice, but his ancestry was Portugese rather than Spanish or Latin American. Trivia time: Cardozo was a cousin of Emma Lazarus (”Give me your tired, your poor…”), and one of his tutors was Horatio Alger.

  1. Yeah, but those guys had been denouncing her for weeks. The only difference is that now they have a name to go with the denouncement.

  2. True. It was a marvel to see them plan an attack on the next nominee, no matter who it might turn out to be. And Rove, too, whom I belatedly added to the post, said she may lack intellectual strength. After all, she only ranked second in her class at Princeton. Rove prefers intellectual giants like Harriet Miers, who ranked just behind Elsie the Cow.
