Melissa Harris-Lacewell of Princeton appeared with Rachel Maddow Friday night, helping to fathom the improbable election of Michael Steele, former Lt. Governor of Maryland, as chairman of the Republican National Committee — the first African American (need we say) to hold that post.
Said Harris-Lacewell, who is also African American:
“The Republicans were beginning to think of Obama as Superman, and the only thing that can defeat Superman is kryptonite, which comes from his home planet. So they went to planet Black Guy to get some kryptonite and came back with Michael Steele.”
